ABOUT ME
I'm Dr Caroline Shinner. I'm a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which is the professional regulatory body for Clinical Psychologists. I am also an ACAT-accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) Practitioner.
I offer assessments and therapy interventions to adults aged 18+. I aim to provide a compassionate and empathic space in which to hear your story, and work alongside you to identify specific goals for therapy. Therapy interventions will be evidence-based and tailored to your needs.
I have over 13 years’ experience of working in NHS Adult Mental Health settings, and services for adults with acquired brain injury and neurological conditions. I continue to hold a position as a Senior Clinical Psychologist within the NHS.
I can offer interventions to address difficulties including depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, problematic relational patterns, and the impact of past trauma experiences, including childhood trauma, and military trauma. I specialise in offering the following therapeutic approaches:
- Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I also offer and integrate the following approaches into my practice:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I also offer assessments of cognitive functioning, strategies to support cognitive functioning, and help to support people in their adjustment to brain injury or neurological conditions. These may include the following:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Stroke
- Spinal injury
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Guillain-Barre Syndrome
QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) - University of Exeter
- MSc in Applied Neuropsychology (Distinction) - University of Nottingham
- BSc in Psychology (First Class) - University of Nottingham
